These are instructions on how to install and use TimeCapsule to make backups of your iPhone. If you are using the 2.0 or higher firmware you should follow the updated instructions for Chronus here
TimeCapsule is a 3rd party application for iPhone and iPod Touch. It can keep multiple states of a particular program by saving its preferences/settings/databases. These states are restorable.
Currently, the TimeCapsule only supports backup/restore of the following apps: AddressBooks contacts, Call History, Calendar, Installers sources (restore may not work due to permission problem in some firmwares, refer to FAQs for solution), Maps bookmarks & history, Maps caches, Notes, Safaris bookmarks & history, SMS, Transits Preferences, Stocks, VoiceMail, Weather, and WorldClock
To install TimeCapsule follow these steps:
Step One Press to launch Installer from your SpringBoard.
Step Two Press to select the Sources tab at the bottom right of the screen.
Step Three Press the Edit button at the top right hand corner of the screen.
Step Four Press the Add button at the top left hand corner of the screen.
Step Five Enter http://repo.databinge.com as the source address then press the large OK button.
Step Six Press the Done button at the top right hand corner of the screen.
Step Seven Press to select the Install tab at the bottom of the screen.
Step Eight Press to select Utilities from the list of Categories.
Step Nine Press to select TimeCapsule from the list of Packages.
Step Ten Press the Install button at the top right hand corner of the screen.
Step Eleven Press the large red Install button that appears.
Step Twelve After the installation is complete you will be returned to the Categories Menu. Press the Home button to return to your SpringBoard. You will notice a new TimeCapsule icon on your SpringBoard.
HOW TO USE TIMECAPSULE Step One Launch TimeCapsule by pressing its icon on the SpringBoard.

Step Four A prompt will appear letting you know that unless you donate you can only make one backup. Press the large OK button.

@ luisyo: experienced same problem after installing the update. Uninstalled Timecapsule, rebooted my phone and reinstalled it, no problems at this time.
If you email it for yourself, after a restore can you open the backup file from mail ?
If not, here's the idea for the next version. Actually it could automatically email the file to yourself.
@Grimlock: then the backup is gone too...Solution: after creating a specific backup, email it to yourself and save it on your Mac or PC. In case of problems you can do a restore after reinstalling TimeCapsule and transferring the backup file using winscp.
