How to Setup Facebook Chat Within iChat

These are instructions on how to setup and use iChat to message your Facebook contacts

Step One
Click to launch iChat from your dock or your Applications folder.

Step Two
Select Preferences... from the iChat menu.

Step Three
Click to select the Accounts tab then click the + button at the bottom left of the window to add a new account.

Step Four
From the Account Type dropdown select Jabber.

Enter your Account Name as username@chat.facebook.com replacing username with your own username/vanityname. For example: iclarified@chat.facebook.com. Next enter your password into the Password field.

Expand the Server Options and set the Server to chat.facebook.com and the Port to 5222

Click the Done button to continue. Notice you will see a new account in the list on the left side of the window.

Step Five
You can now sign in and use iChat to message your Facebook contacts!

in username.!!?? i have to put for example my email is jean_108@hot... i have to put jean_108@chat.face....????

Wait, so is our email address that we use to sign into facebook our 'username' or is our username on our computer

@Eric - This does work. Maybe you can't follow instructions.
@Anthony - This is your facebook username. This is not the email address you log in with. You can choose your facebook username at http://www.facebook.com/username/

This did not say that you have to go to facebook and set it up. You have to set a username plus click on another link. I followed all the instructions given here. Then found the rest of the instructions from Facebook. It works now, but I'm not liking iChat, Adium is better IMHO.

It's not working for me, not recognizing my password from FB!!!!! I went in and created a username in FB and did the steps here mentioned but to no avail.

Did the same as Miguel and it spits at me when I enter my facebook password. Wonder why that is. Everything else is set up correctly.

OR download Adium and just log in.
