TSMC is set to begin chip production of a new A14 processor for the next generation iPhone by the end of Q2 2020, reports the Commercial Times via DigiTimes.
TSMC will remain the sole foundry partner of Apple for the chips for its 2020 iPhone series, and volume production using 5nm EUV process will kick off by the end of second-quarter 2020, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.
Sources say TSMC's 5nm process technology has already moved to risk production. The company will use as much as two thirds of its 5nm capacity to make Apple's new processors. The other initial customer is said to be HiSilicon.
Apple is expected to unveil its next generation iPhones this fall. The new models will likely feature a 5G model from Qualcomm and a new 3D sensing rear-camera. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for updates.
