Oppo showed off a prototype for a foldable smartphone on Weibo today.
VP Brian Shen says the foldable display doesn't bring a huge improvement in user experience but if there is enough consumer demand the company may mass produce it.
At this stage, it seems that after folding, the screen becomes larger, and it can be folded, which does not bring about a huge improvement in user experience. If you really want to, please forward it and see how many people you want? If there are enough people, you can consider whether you want to "mass production".
As you can see from the images below, the design is very similar to the just announced Huawei Mate X. It folds keeping the screen on the outside, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Fold which folds the screen inside. The screen only folds once in the middle; whereas, Xiaomi's prototype folds twice, once on each side. You can check that out here.
We've now seen four different foldable smartphones from major mobile manufacturers. Let us know which interests you the most in the comments below!
I absolutely agree with you, they pushed an unfinished product which costs double of the iphone price and yes they’re waiting for apple to take over and make something usable and people may want, so they can copy it and say they were the first to introduce the foldable phone.
