Apple is a step closer to building a second campus in Cupertino after waiting eight months for city planners to rezone its 7.78-acre property on Pruneridge Avenue to allow office use.

According to the Daily News (Los Angeles), the planning commission unanimously voted to rezone the Pruneridge property to planned development industrial and residential on Monday.

When Apple originally requested the rezoning last April the commission was unable to reach a consensus, with some commissioners wanted a more definitive proposal from Apple.

The city had rezoned the industrial site to residential for a proposed 130-unit townhouse and condominium project before Apple purchased the land in 2006.

Apple spokesperson Michael Foulkes said Apple does not have plans for a campus at that site, but the rezoning is the first step toward any planning.

Approximately one-acre of the site will remain zoned for use as a public park.
