Verizon has unleashed another Droid, anti-iPhone attack ad in Sports Illustrated. The ad features copy that seems directed towards Verizon's feelings on their negotiations with Apple.
This is a world of “nope,” “nuh-uh,” and “sorry, Charlie.” A world of smiling denial. Petty tyrannies that have made their way into our cell phones. Into the very way we choose to speak to another human being. There are dozens of doesn’ts. Doesn’t all customization. Doesn’t run multiple apps. Doesn’t allow you to swap out batteries. Doesn’t allow open development. These arrogant little devices are barely worth more than the pocket link they rest upon. Because now there’s a phone so smart, so strong. So subservient to its user, it refuses to include “doesn’t” in its dictionary app.
In a world of doesn’t. Droid Does.
CNET suggests that the ad is referring to the exchange between two people. Perhaps Charlie and Steve Jobs?
Smiling denials. Petty tyrannies. Are they talking about a competing cell phone or perhaps a certain individual at the competing company?
Even if that is not the case, this is quite a hostile ad by Verizon. Apple itself uses these direct tactics against Microsoft but in a more humorous manner.
What do you think? Are these ads effective?

i went and looked at the droid. crap product. it doesn't have open development like they say. why would i want to change batteries? maybe the droids doesn't last that long. it's heavy. it slides apart for a keyboard, just something else to break. the screen looks smaller than my iphone. it's apps are tied to verizon and what they want just like apple. when i was demoing it, it seemed more like a kids toy, a stocking stuffer if you will. it is nothing like the little computer that fits in your pocket that is the iphone. and if you want to laugh at the droid, go ask verizon about their data plans, and ask how much for an unlimited plan. as soon as he told me i left, that right there is going to kill their pathetic attempt at this
lol you burned him good. i must admit, the iphone's hardware suck and let's face it. only the ui and apps are good which is pretty much... the iphone. for those who think, wtf is this guy talking about the hardware sucks, open your eyes and look beyond your iphone. either way i'm still sticking with the iphone because it has everything i need. (and no guys i'm not a fan boy so don't even start)
samK...I couldn't agree more. I have an iPhone which I no longer use as a phone, I use it as an iPod Touch. You're right, the apps are good, which is pretty much all the iPhone is. The iPhone is an excellent phone, I'm not saying the Droid is better. Each phone has it's advantages and disadvantages. It's just annoying when people post stupid comments (like androids apps are tied to Verizon) with absolutely no proof, and absolutely no knowledge to back up their claims.
It looks like you also need to have your facts straight AT&T unlimited voice plan and data plan is $130 not $150 as you say. And the only reason why verizon claims it has more coverage (which they probably do) it's beacause they don't have a cellphone that has created an onslaught to their net work as iPhone has done to AT&T. I will guarantee that if verizon sold as many droid phones as AT&T has iPhone their network would be in the gutter as well. Apple never claimed the iPhone was gonna be the best phone ever but what they did say was that it was going to reinvent the way we look and use phones in general. And if you ask me they succeeded in doing so. Look at the droid or any touch screen smartphone out there they claim to be better but always find themselves compairing to what the iPhone can't do. I agree touchscreen phones have been around for a while but not as simple as the iPhone. I'm not bashing droid phones all I'm saying is that competition is good it has brought out the best in companies to provide choices and last time I checked that is a good thing for you and me and everyone else. And every network has their perks non of them is perfect. But that's another topic for another day.
My facts are straight re-read my reply above. You will see that my prices included voice, data, AND TEXT. And Verizon doesn't claim to have more coverage, they DO have more coverage. And I totally agree...competition is good, it's just sad that when someone says anything about the iPhone, Apple lovers get their panties in a bunch. Like you said, competition is good for everyone. It will make the iPhone better in the end, and other companies will be wanting to come out with great phones to compete with everyone else.

they even mave you pay 2.99 for visual voicemail which is standard for the iPhone at no CHARGE!!! I'm not saying service isn't better or it's worst I'm saying that their rates are slightly higher a point which you try to argue so to save any further argument I provided you with their link to show you that you can say whatever you want and I'll bring you the proof that says other wise. ;)
I gave you the verizon link so you can see their prices if you think that there was any confusion take that up with them. And I see that now you have resorted to personal attacks gee I wonder who is the six year old. What I said was that verizon unlimited voice and data and text is the same as AT&T. But with verizon if you want visual voicemail it's gonna cost you an extra $2.99 a month where as the iPhone on AT&T is included in the price. Verizon unlimited text plan is only unlimited if you text OTHER VERIZON WIRELESS CUSTOMERS and you get 5000 text messages for non verizon customers for the same price AT&T charges except with AT&T it's unlimited no matter if they are on the same network or not. I'll give you the link to verizon again.http://www.verizonwireless.com:80/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPlanListFromSA
is it necessary for verizon to make enemies? fios and cable are understandable. iphone and droid? i don't know. if you are a real iphone user then droid won't even affect you. if you are not then trust me, there are phones out right now that are better than the droid. why compete when you are only comparing and not exceeding? i believe if you are good then people will eventually follow. you don't see an iphone being built to be a "whatever" killer. it's just an iphone.
