Roku announced a slate of new products and platform updates today, expanding its hardware lineup and refining the user experience for its streaming platform, which it notes is used in over 90 million households globally. The updates include refreshed streaming sticks, new software features rolling out soon, details on its 2025 TV models, and upcoming smart home cameras.

Leading the hardware news are two new streaming devices: the Roku Streaming Stick and Roku Streaming Stick Plus. The entry-level Roku Streaming Stick delivers HD streaming and includes Roku's voice remote for $29.99, replacing the previous Roku Express. For users seeking higher resolution, the Roku Streaming Stick Plus offers 4K streaming with HDR support for $39.99, taking the place of the Roku Express 4K+. Roku highlights that both new sticks feature a compact design, claiming they are over 35% smaller than competitors, and are power-efficient enough to potentially be powered directly by a TV's USB port, reducing cable clutter. Both models support features like Backdrops and provide access to Roku's channel lineup. They are available for pre-order in the U.S. today and will ship starting May 6th. A global rollout to countries including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, the UK, and several others is planned in the coming months.

Alongside the new hardware, Roku detailed upcoming software updates aimed at improving content discovery and personalization. A new "Coming Soon to Theaters" row will appear, allowing users to add upcoming movies to their Save List for notifications when they become available to stream. Within the All Things Food and All Things Home zones, new rows will feature short-form video content. Badges identifying free, paid, new, or award-winning titles will also be added. For sports fans, the Sports Zone gets a personalized highlights row, and the zone itself is expanding globally, starting with Mexico. Mobile sports notifications for favorite teams are also being introduced. The Roku mobile app is receiving expanded content detail pages with cast/crew info, IMDb ratings, and trailers. Other additions include Daily Trivia with a related Trivia Vault, the expansion of the Backdrops feature to all Roku TV models and players in Canada, and a dedicated Roku City tile on the home screen. These software updates are set to roll out over the coming months.

Roku also shared details about its 2025 lineup of Roku-made TVs, noting it has sold over one million units since their introduction. The new lineup promises general improvements like enhanced picture tuning for better contrast and color, clearer audio with deeper bass, and faster app launches. The Roku Pro Series TVs will now feature custom factory calibration. Significant upgrades are coming to the Roku Plus Series, which will incorporate mini-LED backlighting and gain the Smart Picture Max feature previously exclusive to the Pro Series. The Plus Series will also inherit the remote finder button and integrated cable management from the Pro models. Additionally, all 2025 Roku-made TVs will gain Bluetooth Headphone Mode for direct pairing. A new 85-inch size is being added to the Roku Select Series. Specific availability and pricing for the 2025 TV models were not announced today.

Finally, Roku previewed two new additions to its Smart Home line: the Roku Battery Camera and Roku Battery Camera Plus. These wire-free, weather-resistant cameras are designed for indoor or outdoor use. They feature rechargeable batteries, with Roku claiming up to six months of life for the standard model and up to two years for the Plus model on a single charge; an optional solar panel will be available. Both offer 1080p HD video with color night vision, motion detection, and remote monitoring via the Roku Smart Home app or web view. Integration with the Roku platform allows users to view camera feeds on their Roku TV or player, utilize a Camera Carousel feature, receive on-screen notifications, and use Picture-in-Picture viewing. The Roku Battery Camera and Roku Battery Camera Plus are slated for release in the coming months, with pricing details yet to be announced.
