Geohot Declines $10,000 Reward, Blasts Scammers

Geohot has declined a $10,000 reward for the iPhone unlock and blasts those reselling the unlock calling them scum.

The BlackSn0w unlock will be released November 4th, 2009 and will work with the latest iPhone baseband (05.11.07).

In a post on his blog Geohot writes,

First off, Jody Sanders, I am declining your $10,000. Why? Because you, and the rest of the iPhone unlock sites out there are scum. You make money selling freeware; that's not cool, and I am in no way going to legitimize it.

Seriously, the people who really lose here are the customers. These sites are full of blatant lies, claiming to have unlocks for 05.11.07 People buy them, and are told the unlock is in development, and the release date is unknown. Imagine you bought a cup of coffee and were told it's in development? Recently, many of these sites sent out e-mails saying they made major breakthroughs and the unlock will be ready 11/04/09. Coincidence that that's the release date of blacksn0w?

Wow, I'm really impressed. GeoHot is only 19 and he turned down $10,000. I've been impressed ever since i first saw GeoHot on the Today show in 2007 showing off the first ever unlocked iPhone. Thanks for looking out for the people. The appreciation that you will continue to receive is way more worth while than $10,000.

Yes geohot don't release the unlock on 4th of november . Release it on 10th so we can see them ...

GeoHot .. dude, I just took a look at Jody Sanders website .. the promises he is making that they have a hack for the unlock is unbelievable. Dude .. if you really want to hurt his business .. DO NOT RELEASE BLACKSN0W on November 4th .. HOLD OFF. We all know you have the true release .. you created it .. by you not releasing it on your 11/4 date, he is breaking the promises he has made to his customers that there phones will be unlock on this date .. by the software his developers created (as he stated on his website). YOU WANT TO HURT HIS BUSINESS .. HOLD OFF ON THE RELEASE OF BLACKSN0W .. THAT WILL HURT HIM TRUELY .. LOL

Yes, Geohot. Release later than the date. Do not announce until you are ready to launch on the day you choose itself.

I support what you're doing GoeHot. I think it's wonderful that you've turned these people down, and turned the money down. The iPhone is unique in having such great supporters and developers... and everyone else wants a slice of the pie. Well if that pie was sliced like this then the iphone would probably have never caught on in the unlocking and JB community at all because it would be a bullsh*t option full of crazy stupid charges for sh*t that hardly works, and many would just rather remain locked - ergo the iphone would not be the wonderful device it is now.... because we DO have good unlockers and dev teams like you who made Cydia, who've unlocked our phones, who've enabled quality jailbreaks. Thanks to you and your kind we have a wonderful world of options in iPhone. Thanks and good job!

no, DO NOT take the offer. If you accept, he will get the legal right to the software and who knows the future software that comes along with it.

Maybe someone should put 1000 listings on ebay for 1 cent (fixed listing price) ebay's lowest price - thus giving it away inline. I for one will be reporting any auctions to ebay if I see any listings

Way to go Geo! For me I see this as a "race" as the release groups of the torrent scene are doing. They aren't in it for the money they are in it because of the competition and for me I also feel that you. Geo. Is competing with the dev-team and vice versa and I like the spirit! :) Keep up the good work. Ur def in the yellow leading shirt now! Peace
