Apple Developing Advanced 'LLM Siri' to Rival ChatGPT [Report]
Posted 7 hours ago by iClarified
Apple is working to develop a more conversational version of its Siri personal assistant in hopes of catching up with ChatGPT and other rivals, according to new report from Bloomberg.
The new Siri, details of which haven't been reported, uses more advanced large language models, or LLMs, to allow for back-and-forth conversations, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the effort hasn't been announced. The system also can handle more sophisticated requests in a quicker fashion, they said.
Internally, the new voice assistant is being called 'LLM Siri' and employees have been testing it as a separate app for iPhone, iPads, and Mac. Eventually, it will replace the system-wide assistant.
Apple is allegedly planning to unveil the new Siri as soon as 2025, as part of the iOS 19 and macOS 16 software updates. Those updates are being referred to as Luck and Cheer, according to sources.
Similar to Apple Intelligence releases this year, the new Siri won't be available with the first release of iOS 19. Instead, Apple is apparently planning to release it in spring 2026, as a mid-cycle update for iOS.
