Samsung Acquires New Viv Personal Assistant From the Makers of Siri

Samsung has acquired Viv, a new personal assistant from the makers of Siri. Viv is described as an artificial intelligence platform that enables developers to create an intelligent, conversational interface to anything.

Dag Kittlaus, Co-Founder/CEO of Siri & Viv Labs, says "Today’s undoubtedly useful, but ultimately limited assistant technologies must evolve. The next generation will be capable of doing not just a few dozen things for you, but hundreds and thousands of tasks, many of them comprised of multiple, complex steps."

Kittlaus says that Samsung's product mix naturally fits Viv's “simplify your interactions through conversation.”

---
In order for Viv to utilize the incredible scale Samsung offers, and in order to achieve our ultimate goal of redefining the way people interact with the digital landscape, it would be essential for Viv to be available across more than just Samsung devices. Our vision requires that Viv be everywhere.

Samsung is with us. We share a mutual vision to leapfrog the current state-of-the-art in AI, ushering in a new era.

Viv will live on as an independent subsidiary of Samsung, able to both meaningfully integrate intelligence across a wide variety of products at scale in ways never before seen, and eventually fulfill the vision of the “everywhere assistant” as a major paradigm in its own right.

Samsung says the deal showcases its commitment to virtual personal assistants and is part of the company’s broader vision to deliver an AI-based open ecosystem across all of its devices and services.

“Unlike other existing AI-based services, Viv has a sophisticated natural language understanding, machine learning capabilities and strategic partnerships that will enrich a broader service ecosystem,” said Injong Rhee, CTO of the Mobile Communications business at Samsung Electronics. “Viv was built with both consumers and developers in mind. This dual focus is also what attracted us to Viv as an ideal candidate to integrate with Samsung home appliances, wearables and more, as the paradigm of how we interact with technology shifts to intelligent interfaces and voice control.”

I think this guy is wearing an apple watch which means he must also use an iPhone, how ironic; you can see a bit of the watch plus the crown sticking our from the shirt sleeve.

Ironic that people use the watch without the phone, but use them together anyway (which I doubt it is ironic), or ironic that these guys are now with another company?

It would be interesting if these people are spies for Apple.

Siri isn't that bad, besides, I'm sure these guys won't do as good because this wouldn't happen if it wasn't for Siri. It's Apple Pay ripoffs all over again. It wouldn't happen without its source.

Apple has the 2/3 of the original team. Plus they have AI working on the phones together with Siri. Plus the power of the A10 chips. Siri is going to get way smarter fast!

They can't help themselves from copying everything Apple. And then they try to add their on explosive sauce. It just doesn't work that way.
