ESPN App Gets Updated With WatchESPN Access

The ESPN app for iOS has been updated with the ability to stream live events from WatchESPN. The update comes ahead of the conclusion of the college football regular season, bowl games and College Football Playoff.

“Offering the convenience of live streaming within one app reinforces the value of the multichannel subscription,” said Sean Breen, Senior Vice President of Affiliate Sales, Disney & ESPN Media Networks. “Even with WatchESPN’s recent record-breaking viewership, we continue to be aggressive in driving awareness to a large scale audience and to incentivize video subscribers to authenticate.”

● Watch every game live. If it’s on ESPN, it’s in the ESPN App. Just sign in with your cable provider and start streaming. Tap the WatchESPN icon in the tab bar to browse every live stream available — from the NBA on ESPN to Midnight Sportscenter, we’ve got you covered.
● Improved logic to sort top events on your home screen.
● Built for iOS 9.
— Use spotlight search to find the scores, schedules, and news about your favorite leagues and teams.
— Universal links open directly in the ESPN App, instead of taking you to Safari.
— For the iPhone 6S owners out there, use 3D touch to launch directly into Favorites, Listen, and WatchESPN.
● Bug fixes and performance improvements.


Notably, the update comes as WatchESPN is hitting record breaking viewership. It set records in September and October for its two most viewed non-World Cup months ever, attracting 11 million total unique viewers that watched 2.2 billion minutes in September, up 50 percent and 92 percent, respectively, compared to the same month in 2014 and 9 million total unique viewers that watched 1.9 billion minutes in October, up 39 percent and 71 percent, respectively.
