Apple Watch Wins 'Best of the Best' Red Dot Design Award

Apple Watch Wins 'Best of the Best' Red Dot Design Award

Posted April 3, 2015 at 3:26pm by iClarified
The Apple Watch has been selected as a winner of the prestigious 'Best of the Best' Red Dot design award, according to A Blog to Watch.

The Product Design competition has existed since 1954. Its award, the Red Dot, is an internationally recognized quality seal. The best products receive the Red Dot: Best of the Best award.

Only two watches received the 'Best of the Best' designation in the new Watches category: the Apple Watch and the MB&F HM6 Space Pirate.

The site notes that both watches are very different but both controversial in design.

Given the limitations of technology, as well as the potential of what can come of connected smartwatches, I think it makes a lot of sense that the Red Dot award jury decided to not only recognize the Apple Watch, but consider it as a "Best of the Best" product. It's an interesting Best of the Best Red Dot watch design award this year, as, on the one hand, you have the $230,000 MB&F HM6 Space Pirate that is limited to just 50 pieces, and on the other hand, you have the mostly $1,000 and under Apple Watch that could easily have 50 million units on wrists before long.

All the Red Dot design award winners will be unveiled on June 29th. We'll have more details then. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.

it is ridiculous to give an award to a product that isn't even being sold yet. This is clearly just for that blog to attract some attention by riding on the Watch's coattails. Pathetic.

It's been quite a while since it's been out which means giving others a chance to be in the competition so it makes sense to have products awarded if given a specific time long enough for related products to be revealed released or not.

Seems to me like the MB&F Watch is just an attempt to provide simple information in the most complex way possible. Of course Apple Watch isn't without its faults but seems like more of a technical beauty than the MB&F.
