Following the sighting of a mysterious Apple van in San Francisco, an Apple employee is allegedly claiming that the company is working on something that will 'give Tesla a run for its money', reports Business Insider.
The employee contacted the site about 'vehicle development' at Apple. He/she said that Tesla employees were 'jumping ship' to work at Apple.
"Apple's latest project is too exciting to pass up," the person said. "I think it will change the landscape and give Tesla a run for its money."
Recently, we reported that Apple and Tesla were in an employee poaching war; however, it seemed as though Tesla was winning that war with over 150 former Apple employees hired. LinkedIn suggests that Apple has around 50 former Tesla employees working there. Most of the employees Apple has hired specialize in mechanics, manufacturing, and robotics.
It's long been rumored that Apple could have some type of vehicle in the works; however, it's definite outside their core expertise. That said, Google is building its own self driving car and Apple may not want to let that go unanswered.
Business Insider also suggests that Apple could be working on an in-car experience to rival Tesla's. Perhaps an integrated experience for navigation, audio, and other vehicle systems.
Let us know what you think of these rumors in the comments. Would you want to see Apple develop its own vehicle? Remember "Steve's dream before he died was to design an iCar."
