Apple has announced the launch of Tap to Pay on iPhone in Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland, providing merchants with a simple and secure way to accept in-person, contactless payments directly on an iPhone.

Developed in collaboration with payment platforms, networks, and app developers, Tap to Pay on iPhone enables businesses of all sizes to accept payments from contactless bank cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets using only an iPhone and a partner's iOS app. No additional hardware or payment terminal is required.

With Tap to Pay on iPhone, any merchant can enable contactless payment acceptance through a supported iOS app on an iPhone Xs (or later model) running the latest version of iOS. At checkout, the customer simply holds their contactless bank card, iPhone, Apple Watch, or digital wallet near the merchant's iPhone to securely complete the purchase using NFC technology. No extra hardware is needed, allowing businesses to accept contactless payments wherever they operate.
