Bose Sues Apple's Beats Over Noise-Cancelling Headphone Patents

Posted July 25, 2014 at 6:51pm by iClarified
Bose has sued Beats, a company which Apple has agreed to acquire, over its noise-cancelling headphone patents. The company has also filed a complaint in the U.S. International Trade Commission against Beats, and others, asserting infringement of the same patents.

Bose says for almost 50 years it has made significant investment in the research, development, engineering, and design of proprietary technologies now implemented in its products, such as noise cancelling headphones.

The company's noise cancelling headphones are protected by numerous patents. It's latest noise cancelling headphones model, the QC20, is protected by at least 27 U.S. patents and applications (14 patents and 13 pending applications).

Bose alleges that Beats is infringing on five of its patents and is asking for an injunction to prevent Beats from continuing to infringe on the patents, an accounting of all infringing sales, an award of damages, an increase in damages due to willful infringement, legal fees, and any other relief the court deems just.

Yes its funny but whats your point? you see it as fishy, but I see it as a strategic battle plan to its finest! So Bose owns the patent for it, does that mean they should've sued Beats the moment Beats sold their very first headphone? No... they don't have to... they can let it go for as long as they want... so whats your point?! what is your point?! you think we are all idiots who don't already know about this issues of beats being sued after they make it big?!?!! you think you are the smartest person on the block here?!1ikfhalskj ok I am now the smartest person on iclarified here because I noticed this reason beyond all of you! YES i never mentioned the time frame of when the lawsuit started after the acquisition of beats to apple but i sure as HELL KNOW THAT THIS PATENT BELONGS TO BOSE AND BOSE IS THE ONE WHO EFFING DECIDES WHEN AND HOW THEY WANT TO SUE!!!! DO YOU GET IT YET?

You are wrong. Infringement is there so that people can create new and different things not to copy other people stuff. That is the reason why patents and trademarks exists. If everybody was allowed to infringe we would be nowhere.

It's sad to see some of these "patents" taken advantage of. Sometimes I feel as though they block new technology and limit customer choices. But I may be wrong, just my opinion.

It's also quite possible Beats knew the lawsuit was coming and sought protection from Apple who has a bigger war chest and vast experience in that arena.

Not saying the lawsuit has no merit. Just funny that Bose files suit after apple buys beats.
