Steve Jobs to Announce New iPhone in Late June Rather Than at WWDC?

The new iPhone will not be announced at WWDC rather Steve Jobs will return to announce it in late June, according to a report by Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster.

Apple just recently announced that Phil Schiller would lead the WWDC keynote and Munster believes that this address will focus only on iPhone 3.0 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

“Although this may raise some concern among investors that Steve Jobs will not return [at all],” wrote Munster, “we continue to expect his return to the company by the end of June.”

Munster believes that a second event is in store which will be jam packed with news.

“We expect Apple to host a special event in late June or early July to launch a family of iPhones. We continue to expect multiple models, possibly a high-end iPhone with improved specs from the current version and a low-end version with lower capacity and fewer features along with a reduced pricing plan. Such a model could also be used in Apple’s launch of the iPhone into China as soon as the end of summer ‘09.

This is stupid, so when the new iphone doesn't get announced in late June it will be early July at another pointless place. If it's announced then great but in the mean time theres no real concrete evidence of a new iphone being released. I really hope a new one is but all this speculation is stupid.

I agree completely. Furthermore, I don't understand why people think there even is a new iPhone coming!?! The iPhone 3G was only released because 3G is an important wireless technology that Apple failed to implement in their 1st generation iPhone. Apple have also done a pretty good job releasing updates (OS 3.0) and features, giving the iPhone a very long product life cycle. Releasing new hardware is unnecessary.

Well i for one want a brand new 'high end' iphone 3g to set me apart - simply because everyone i know has an iphone now! Gone are the days of having the best gadget and showing it proudly, i hardly ever take my iphone out of my pocket unless i have to! Shame really

You guys are funny. Of course there's new hardware, its part of Apples product lifecycle and how they operate in general. Look at release cycles on iPods, MB, MBP, MP, etc...It's how they kill it on revenues...convincing folks they need the "better" toy...regularly. In the iPhone's case, the writing is on the wall, firesales on refurbs, Apple and AT&T selling them online, not to mention the Apple driven rumor mill. Whether it be early or late June, we're going to see a 32gb, 3.2mp iPhone. There's unconfirmed additional hardware upgrades, but you get the picture. Also, as it was uncovered before, the writing is in the 3.0 code.
