Deutsche Telekom Announces 150 Mbit/s LTE Advanced Network

Posted September 5, 2013 at 4:21pm by iClarified
Deutsche Telekom has announced that speeds of up to 150 Mbit/s are now possible on their network with LTE+ (LTE Advanced).

--
The new technology is due to go live immediately in all towns and urban centers which have had access to a 100 Mbit/s service to date. This will make LTE+ plus directly available in well over 100 towns and cities. The number will almost double by the end of the year.

As of October 1, Deutsche Telekom is adjusting its current rates portfolio to LTE+. The changeover will benefit subscribers whose current rates and options cover up to 100 Mbit/s, a speed that will be raised automatically to 150 Mbit/s at no extra charge. Users who previously surfed the Net with a download rate of max. 50 Mbit/s will soon be able to use double that speed, up to a maximum of 100 Mbit/s. There will be no extra charges, since the current prices continue to apply. To mark the start of IFA in Berlin (September 6 - 11), Mobile Data XL will be the first data rate to support download speeds of 150 Mbit/s.

Deutsche Telekom also announced that Samsung will be offering an upgrade of its Galaxy S4 with LTE+ and that comparable devices from other vendors will follow at the end of September.

The news has sparked speculation that Apple might equip its new iPhone 5S with LTE+ support; however, Apple typically hasn't jumped on emerging cellular technologies before widespread carrier support.

Here in the US we we still have the slow LTE, crazy costs and even our cable speeds are slow as hell (10 Mbps). Thank ATT and Verizon for that.
