How to Wipe Your iPhone Without Losing Your Jailbreak Using Semi-Restore [Mac]

These are instructions on how to wipe your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to near stock condition without losing your jailbreak using Semi-Restore for Mac.

Before beginning make sure you do a backup of your device.

**Until a fix is released, do NOT use SemiRestore if you installed afc2add.

Step One
Create a Pwnage folder on your desktop. Download Semi-Restore from here and save it to the Pwnage folder you just created.

Step Two
Double click the Semi-Restore archive to extract it.

Step Three
Right click or Control+Click the Semi-Restore application and select Open from the popup menu.

Click Open when asked if you're sure you want to open it.

Input your administrative username and password if prompted.

Step Four
When Semi-Restore launches click the OK button to continue past the welcome message.

Step Five
Connect your iOS 5.0 to iOS 6.1.2 iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to the computer and click the SemiRestore button.

Step Six
You phone will be rebooted as Semi-Restore wipes it clean.

Step Seven
Once Semi-Restore has completed you will be informed that the process was successful and your iOS device will be rebooted to the new device setup wizard.

I did a semi-restore on my iPad 3 all went OK. BUT i have a big problem when I connected to iTunes to sync my date back it doesn't work. I cant sync any information no Apps,Photos ,Music ... PLEASE HELP.

I can not get past the performing clean up stage. It says that the phone needs to be connected. Is that normal for it to have to wait very long?

If i remove afc2add before using semi-restore app will it work? They dont say anything about this on their website

Does this applicable on iPhone 5 ?!! Because I dont have it and still have problem with all tweaks after semi restore.

I have same problem on iPhone 5. Semi restore completed restore successfully but still all tweaks are still existing in cydia but not working. I did same process on iPhone 4S and got everything okay as expected, new iPhone with new cydia.

I tried to open SemiRestore on my Macbook Pro OS 10.6.8 and I can get the following error: "SemiRestore cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure SemiRestore works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple." Any ideas?

you need to change the setting on your mac go into system preferences> Security & Privacy and change> General> change the "allow applications downloaded from:" to anywhere

This did not work properly. Cydia is still installed, but not of my tweaks show up in settings. Winterboard is there, and my list is present and themes/etc. are chosen, but none of them work. However somethings do like my font and intelliscreenx. What's the deal here?

Also, not sure if this would make a difference with what I'm experiencing, or not, but this is on a 4S. I tried it once more, and same result. Cydia is present, as sbsettings, and few other mods. But, none work right. I can open Cydia, navigate it, and it shows all my mods. I can seemingly reinstall things, but nothing works. Super pissed. Wish I hadn't bothered...

To follow up, things did work, but there should be more details as to what you will experience after semi-restoring. If you carried over the Preference Folders tweak in settings into 6.x from an older iOS, it will not continue to work. This left me thinking that many of my hacks did not work. You can't install preference folders into settings in 6.x. Not sure why I was able to retain that when moving from 5.x, but I had it. Preference Organizer could be a replacement, but doesn't seem to work right. So, I still cannot access settings for certain hacks (i.e. Iconoclasm) Also, though Cydia will show all of your packages checked off as being installed, they're not. You'll need to reinstall everything. This is what I get for being a guinea pig trying to clean up their JB iOS. I do not recommend this. Waaaay more trouble than it's worth (currently). Nice thought though...
