iOS has gained 2.7% in U.S. smartphone market share over the three month period ending March 31st compared to Android which lost 1.4% and BlackBerry which lost 1.2%, according to the latest comScore numbers.
Notably, this appears to be the fifth straight period in which Android has lost marketshare to iOS. A chart from Asymco analyst Horace Dediu visualizes the change.
Smartphone OEM Market Share 136.7 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (58 percent mobile market penetration) during the three months ending in March, up 9 percent since December. Apple ranked as the top OEM with 39 percent of U.S. smartphone subscribers (up 2.7 percentage points from December). Samsung ranked second with 21.7 percent market share (up 0.7 percentage points), followed by HTC with 9 percent, Motorola with 8.5 percent and LG with 6.8 percent.
Smartphone Platform Market Share Google Android ranked as the top smartphone platform with 52 percent market share (71.1 million subscribers), while Apple’s share increased 2.7 percentage points to 39 percent (53.3 million subscribers). BlackBerry ranked third with 5.2 percent share, followed by Microsoft (3 percent) and Symbian (0.5 percent).
I love it when the comparison iOS Vs. Android comes up. Please let us all keep in mind that iOS is available on 1 phone/pad from 1 company, where as android is being shitted out by multiple companies on numerous phones/tablets... So if iOS is growing its market share and android is loosing... damn.... Apple is KILLING IT! Lets be real. Jus Sayin'

Please name for me one major US carrier that the iPhone is not available for? Last time I checked, all major carriers in the US carry the iPhone, and Android is still outselling the iPhone by a large margin. If you look at global sales, Android accounts for over 75% of smart phones shipped. Apple is not "killing it", they are playing catchup.
Losing market share does not especifically means that people changed platform...it indicates that there are more ios devices (mainly because of the new activations of the iphone 5...yes...not everything is USA, iphone 5 is new in other countries).
HTC is a least making advancements with their version of Android OS (Sense 5). The 'almighty' and 'incredible' Samsung on the other hand served to the masses more of the same, with just some minor toppings added (especially when comparing S3 to S4). THAT will SURELY cost Samaung in the long run, both in terms of popularity and sales (and will surely leave room for makers like SONY and HTC to grab a big slice of that Android market pie), all that while Apple will be laying back smiling in its comfort zone, enjoying its upcomming popular revenue-making devices!
