The New iPhone Will Be Longer and Thinner Than the iPhone 4S?

The new iPhone will be longer and thinner than the iPhone 4S and feature a new dock connector, according to a report from iLounge.

The new iPhone will indeed be longer and thinner than the iPhone 4 and 4S. Approximate measurements are 125mm by 58.5mm by 7.4mm-a 10mm jump in height, nearly 2mm reduction in thickness, and virtually identical width. According to our source, Apple will make one major change to the rear casing, adding a metal panel to the central back of the new iPhone. This panel will be flat, not curved, and metal, not ceramic. Our artist's rendition provides a rough idea of what this change will look like; it echoes the current-generation iMac design, to be sure.

iLounge also predicts that the new iPhone will feature a 4-inch screen. That means a change in the iPhone's aspect ratio for the first time.

The device is also expected to use Gorilla Glass 2 which will allow for thinner or stronger glass.

Finally, a new Dock Connector is said to debut on the device. The new port will be a little larger than the bottom speaker or microphone hole on the iPhone 4/4S. It's believed to have fewer pins than the prior 30-pin Dock Connector, perhaps only 16, and the shape of the hole is apparently closer to a pill shape than the prior rounded rectangle. It will be used on all upcoming devices, including an update to the iPod touch that's expected this year, and will almost certainly feature a similarly updated screen and CPU.

iLounge expects Apple will carry its iPad naming convention through to its other devices. ie. "new iPhone" and "new iPod".

Is anyone else sick of hearing what the next iPhone will look like? Unless I hear it direct from Apple. I don't want to know. It's all bullshit from any other source.

Me too.. Unless it is directly announced by Apple then I will believe it too.. We know rumors are just to feed people of excitements and dissapointments.. Nothing are true unless it is proven correct..

Makes sense as apple won't make the screen huge and may need to make the phone longer as phones are getting very big

If it's like that, pot-ugly! I bet it will look slick, and hope it will have more active screen% on the front, and a homogeneous rounded edges backside, for look and touch..

A lot more conjecture with little support. But there's no reason to call a new device the "new iPhone". There's no issue over the "iPhone" name like there is with the iPad. The "new iPad" was named that simply so they could yank the name if they lost the court case in China and/or the international courts. Frankly, Apple's more likely to restrict the device form China rather than rename the device. The demand for the device would likely cause the government to back down.

There's not even any agreement on whether the next iPhone will be 5 or 6 so "the new iPhone" seems reasonable to me.

wha??? I hope the next iphone won't be like that!!! They should make the screen larger mantaining the current size.. Please remove the home button and all the black tinted zones on the front screen..
