Comcast has updated its Xfinity Mobile app for iOS with free text messaging.
Stay connected on the go with your unified inbox, where you can check your Comcast.net email, Text Messages and XFINITY voicemail together in one place. Sync your mobile address book with your Universal Address Book so all contacts are in one convenient place. See who called your home phone, listen to important voicemail messages and forward calls from your home phone to your iPhone. View your account information, pay your bill, set up automatic payments within the new XFINITY Mobile app.

Sir, I have comcast phone, tv, Internet. We are an older couple and only use tracfone because it is much cheaper. Plus we don't get cell service at our home. With free texting from our iPod touches even my husband who did not like to text on his phone is using it quite often. I spent a week in the hospital and used 700 minutes texting. If this was available I would have saved those minutes. Since my children and other young friends prefer to text I talk to them more. So there are those of us who like very much we can do this from our landline.
