Apple to Appeal $1.17 Million Fine Levied By Italian Regulators

Apple has said it will appeal a $1.17 million fine levied by Italian regulators who found that Apple was selling 2 year warranties to customers when they were already entitled to a 2 year warranty by Italian law, reports The Register.

The fruitchomp firm reckons that despite the regulator's ruling it is complying with Italian law, and will be appealing against the decision by the regulator to fine the company $1.2m. The Italian authorities have accused Apple of failing to advise customers of their legal right to a two-year warranty, instead offering them one year and then promoting AppleCare as an optional extension, an accusation Apple denies.

Surprisingly, The Register says they received this news from Apple themselves despite being ignored by the company in the past.

A similar thing happened in France. Apple got sued and lost. The EU issues an implied 2 year warranty on all manufacture defects. Apple was selling Apple Care even though they knew that in Europe no one needed to purchase it. In a word, they were dishonest. They should be made to reimburse everyone who purchased Apple Care, and yes a fine is in order. Part of doing business.
