Physical Prototype Mockup of the 'iPhone 5' [Photos, Video]

Giga.de has produced a physical prototype mockup of the 'iPhone 5' machined from a solid block of aluminum.

A three-dimensional computer model was created based on CAD designs, hardware components, several leaked hints, cases and recent, believable mockups. This virtual model was then used to build a very detailed, true prototype that you can hold in your own two hands.

---
The process to create this prototype is the same that's used to create the iPad. The back was machined from a sold block of aluminium, which was later treated with glass pearls to get the same slightly rough touch that we already know from the iPad.

This prototype is only 59.94 mm wider than the current iPhone 4, but with a height of 109.98 mm it's also just a bit thinner than its predecessor. We already talked about the teardrop design. We took a really close look at the most recent leaks to gather as much information as possible on how the upcoming iPhone might look like from the side. You can clearly see the teardrop style, with a thickness of 6.86 mm at the top and only 5.33 mm at the bottom.

Even though our prototype is a bit wider than the iPhone 4 (59.94 mm vs 58.6 mm) the design, in combination with the larger 4 inch touchscreen makes it more compact and easier to handle. Thanks to the rounded design it also feels much nicer while holding it in your hand. Compared with an iPhone 5, the old phone even looks and feels a little chunky.
---

Although there has been much speculation. It's unclear if this will be the design unveiled at the Apple iPhone event on October 4th. Many people Apple will only be unveiling an 'iPhone 4S' with a design similar to the current iPhone 4.

"This prototype is only 59.94 mm wider than the current iPhone 4, but with a height of 109.98 mm it's also just a bit thinner than its predecessor." This makes no sense. The new prototype is 59.94 mm WIDER than an iPhone 4? and a HEIGHT of 109.98mm makes it thinner??? try This prototype is only 59.94mm wide, which makes it broader than the current iPhone 4 but shorter with a height of 109.98mm. It is also slightly thinner than it's predecessor.

That's a great mockup. Off topic: Very few Germans are of East or Southeast Asian decent (much less than 1%). So it's a natural reaction to be surprised by him speaking German. Stereotypes and statistical expectations are not the same as racism, which is hatred or a judgement that another person is inferior because of their race.

The prototype doesn't seem compatible with the case being the antenna while an internal antenna would be shielded by the wrap-around metal body. As a result, I'm guessing the real phone will look somewhat different or will have a non-conductive body shell.

You are forgetting Apple's recent patents involving placing the antenna underneath the apple logo, which presumably could be made of plastic. This would allow signal through the aluminum case.

Pretty nice looking although I was more mesmerized by the Asian not speaking Asian.
