Microsoft has announced that the Metro style browser in Windows 8 will not support Flash or any other plugins.

The Metro style browser in Windows 8 is as HTML5-only as possible, and plug-in free. The experience that plug-ins provide today is not a good match with Metro style browsing and the modern HTML5 web.

Running Metro style IE plug-in free improves battery life as well as security, reliability, and privacy for consumers. Plug-ins were important early on in the web's history. But the web has come a long way since then with HTML5. Providing compatibility with legacy plug-in technologies would detract from, rather than improve, the consumer experience of browsing in the Metro style UI.

I can see this been beneficial when surfing on battery power like on mobile/pad and when needed you still can use that "proper browser" to see the rich content so its really Win-win situation. Flash is unbeatable for certain kind of multimedia that surely cannot be place by clunky HTML5 bublegum... cannot see why both iOS Safari and W8 Metro browser could not have Flash behind on-off switch. Then it would be purely up to the user what content he wants to consume.

you can use the full IE browser in windows 8 if you want to browse with plugin's just not the Metro version. Kinda silly but at least its an option. I have Adobe Flash player 11 beta 64bit running on Windows 8 on a laptop. You can also install any other browser you want. I installed chrome

But Freddie, Today you have IE, but because is a legacy tecnology. When Windows 8 comes to market, probably Microsoft will stop its development. Then Flash will go to the grave!!!!

I haven't gone through all the BuildWindows session videos yet so I don't know if they've mention any plans about the Different versions of windows for different device form factors. They seem pretty commited to provided a full PC experience on a tablet, thats thier big differenciator. But atleast Microsoft is being fair and truthful for now when they say NO plugin's, their own Silverlight doesn't work in Metro IE. We'll just have to wait and see what they do.
