How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 4 Using RedSn0w (Mac) [4.3.5]

These are instructions on how to perform a tethered jailbreak of iPhone 4 on the 4.3.5 firmware using RedSn0w for Mac. If you are on 4.3.3 or lower make sure you do NOT update to iOS 4.3.5. Use the untethered JailbreakMe instead. You can find the appropriate JailbreakMe tutorial here.

Those who want to unlock should make sure not to update without preserving their baseband.

Step One
Create a folder on your desktop called Pwnage

Download RedSn0w from 0.9.8b7b here and place it in the Pwnage folder. Likewise, download the latest 4.3.5 firmware from below and place it in the same folder.

Extract the RedSn0w zip file by double clicking it.

Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down Option and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone.

BOOT TETHERED
Once RedSn0w has finished jailbreaking your device you will need to boot it tethered. Rerun RedSn0w and this time select Just boot tethered right now from the list of options instead of installing Cydia.

Cydia is NOT working on my iPhone4 after the successful Jailbreak. The Cydia logo is just a blank white square. When i click on it, it just blinks and nothing happens.

I am on iPhone 4.3.5 and firmware 04.10.01. Is there a way for me to Jailbreak my iPhone 4 and do a carrier unlock? I have never done this before, but need to do this now since I am traveling out of the US for a few weeks and want to use a local SIM in India. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Whatever you do don't update to jailbreak since it will make you have to plug in your phone to reboot tethered. If you don't know what that is trust me its a pain. You can jailbreak on your current iOS version with one of the tutorials on this site. Here are the links for the windows and mac version but if you goto tutorials then select your device, jailbreak you can find these and newer versions. The main thing is you pay attention to the version of the firmware i.e. iOS 4.2.1 and the device and of course mac or windows.
