iPhone 17 Air Leak Alleges 5.5mm Thickness, 2800mAh Battery

Battery specifications for the rumored iPhone 17 Air, along with its potential weight and thickness, have allegedly been leaked by yeux1122 on Naver. As we've previously reported, Apple is targeting a remarkably slim and lightweight design for this upcoming model.

According to the leak, which yeux1122 notes is from a Taiwanese parts supplier and is pending further reliability confirmation, the iPhone 17 Air is purported to measure just 5.5mm thick. This aligns with previous predictions from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who also suggested an ultra-thin 5.5mm design for the device (excluding its camera bar). Hands-on videos with alleged iPhone 17 Air dummy units have also highlighted a strikingly thin build, with some mockups showing a thickness around 5.65mm.

The leak further claims the iPhone 17 Air will weigh around 145 grams. For its battery, a capacity of 2800 mAh is mentioned. Interestingly, yeux1122 adds a note that the device might utilize high-density battery cells, which could potentially increase the actual capacity by 15% to 20% over a standard 2800 mAh cell of the same physical size. This aligns with recent developments from major Apple supplier TDK Corp., which announced it is accelerating shipments of its new silicon-anode batteries. These cells can reportedly pack about 15% more energy into the same volume and are designed for slimmer smartphones, with TDK planning to ship them by the end of June. This advancement could be particularly relevant for the iPhone 17 Air, given earlier reports that its thinness might lead to shorter battery life, prompting Apple to develop a dedicated battery case for the model.


Apple is anticipated to unveil its full iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025. The lineup is rumored to include the iPhone 17, expected with a 6.1-inch display, an A18 chip, and potentially 12GB of RAM, featuring a 24MP front camera and a dual rear camera system with a 48MP main lens. The iPhone 17 Air, possibly replacing the Plus model, is rumored to be ultra-thin (around 5.5-5.65mm), with a 6.6-inch display, an A19 chip, 12GB of RAM, a single 48MP rear camera, and potentially an Apple-designed modem and titanium frame. The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to feature a 6.3-inch display, the A19 Pro chip, 12GB of RAM, a triple 48MP rear camera system including a periscope telephoto lens, a redesigned part-aluminum, part-glass back with a full-width camera bar, vapor chamber cooling, and potentially 8K video recording; a new Sky Blue color has also been rumored. Finally, the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which may be rebranded as the iPhone 17 Ultra, is expected to share the Pro's features but with a larger 6.9-inch display and could also include a smaller Dynamic Island.
