New Photography Magazine For The iPad

VIEW is an art photography magazine developed exclusively for the visual possibilities of the iPad by the multimedia design studio FusionLab. Curated by FusionLab partner, photographer Alon Koppel, VIEW features little-known photographers from around the world, most of whose work was discovered online. VIEW's inaugural issue launched in March 2011 and the second issue has now been released. Fueled by FusionLab's passion for communicating through images, VIEW presents "photography as we see it."

App Overview:
As a service provider for Conde Nast, FusionLab began exploring Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, the same exciting new solution used by Wired and The New Yorker (both Conde Nast publications) to create their digital magazines. VIEW is the result.

VIEW takes full advantage of the iPad's unique format and ability to display images with stunning clarity and enthralling interactivity. The Adobe Publishing Suite allows a layout that is visually gorgeous and easy to use - a brilliant partnership of form and function.

VIEW's first issue launched to great response in March 2011, with enthusiastic feedback and over 6,000 copies downloaded, an impressive number for an unknown start-up backed by almost no PR.

Issues of VIEW are not curated around a theme. Rather, FusionLab seeks to gather an eclectic range of good photography spanning the globe. VIEW #2 is truly sweeping in scope, presenting the bold New York City street photography of Todd Gross; Mark Powell's vibrant Mexico photos; Australian artist David Thomas' series of painting on photos; and Satoshi Sakurai's powerful photos of Fukushima.

There are also photos of the wall dividing Israel and Palestine as seen (and decorated) from the Palestinian side; wonderful photographs taken through The Modern Story, a program that gives underserved children in India cameras to document their world; and SPANA's pictures of the developing-world's beasts-of-burden, the cause that the organization helps support and bring awareness to.

"In a world where most photography magazines are either about megapixels or very expensive and/or hard to find, VIEW is a truly refreshing idea .... The presentation and built-in offline access is just perfect."
