Apple is reportedly planning to use aluminum for the back of the iPhone 5 instead of glass, according to Taiwan’s Economic Daily News.
GadgetsDNA reports that according to a Chinese source, Apple is changing the rear part of iPhone 5 to aluminum which was used for first iPhone’s instead of glass or might adopt the design similar to iPod touch 4G, after facing lots of issues with white paint and scratches on rear glass surface
The article predicts that the antenna will be placed behind the Apple logo.
Antenna will be designed just behind Apple Logo so that cellular and Wi-Fi signal can penetrate easily. Side exposed steel antennas seem to be abandoned, as designed in iPhone 4. The report also confirms that the next generation iPhone5 will be galloping on multi-processor A5, as in iPad2.
OHHH NOOOO! Glass is cool! I like it! No doubt one has to take care a bit, but it doesn't scratch easily, looks classy, doesn't feel cheap and sets itself well apart from all the plasticware you get from almost all other brands. I hate the plastic stuff! And aluminum - as nice as it may be - scratches way too easily and is much more common average 0815-design. Who else creates glass devices?
If that is making the phone thinner, lighter, death grip free and with more friendly hand grip then it is not so bad - I would indeed say that it is an improvement :)
Only cons I can see are lots of scratches on the rear because of this new design.
I hope this isn't true. I love the glass design of the iPhone 4 and the aluminium just gets scratched (Especially on the shiny chrome).
I can't see Apple going back to metal after the looks of the iphne 4.
