iOS 4.3 Brings Ability to Cancel an In-Progress App Downloads

iOS 4.3 is bringing the ability to cancel an in-progress app download, according to a discovery made by AppAdvice.

The feature is quite simple to use. All you have to do is enter the icon arrangement mode (“Wiggle mode”) as you normally do to delete an app. This time however, you’ll notice the ‘x’ appear over the currently downloading app as well. Just hit it, confirm and iOS will proceed to interrupt the download and delete the app.

Apple is expected to release a third beta of iOS 4.3 today and may be planning to release the final version before the Verizon iPhone ships on February 10th.

Wow, alot of criticism reading the comments. What you guys don't realise is that this feature is not so you can just delete an app. If you wanted to do that before, all you had to fo is wait for it to finish. No big deal. The big bonus here is for people who accidentally buy an app and realise their mistake too late. If you cancel the app before it finishes, you shouldn't get charged. A worthwhile feature if you ask me.

@Derek: As far as I'm aware, you're charged for a pay-for App as soon as it starts downloading, not when it finishes. Assuming that is how the transaction takes place, this new 'feature' isn't going to help from that perspective. This is why we're all poking fun at this poor excuse of a 'new feature'...

Doesn't he mean data charge, say for example you download TomTom using your 3G data, but then again you can pause downloads...

No, he doesn't mean data charge. Besides, iOS won't let you download anything larger than 20 MB from the store while on 3G. http://www.iphonefaq.org/archives/97825

Wow, adding the ability to cancel in-progress AppStore downloads; what a radically cool new feature! *sarcasm* ...as if this shouldn't of been available when the iOS AppStore first opened. (>_<) *facepalm*

I agree, the only reason i jailbrake my ios devices (iphone 4 & iPad) is so that i can get some of the added features that most 3 year old phones come with.... the software/hardware on the apple products is great, they just need to add more features

Slow down boss, one person cannot develop all these features alone even though he paid good money ))))))))

The only reason why jobs dont ask their developers to add many features is bcoz he hates iphone freeze!! (like other platforms, symbian s60,windows or android) So he lets only time tested and stable default apps!
