Theme It Brings Theme Store to iDevices

Theme It Brings Theme Store to iDevices

Posted January 21, 2011 at 10:51pm by iClarified
A new application will be released soon called Theme It. It will be very similar to the Cydia Store, but will feature themes only. Obviously, this will be competition for the Cydia Store, which does feature some themes.

A carefully designed platform (application and website) allowing focus on high-quality themes and also the artists behind the themes in a way that wasn't possible before… it's the Theme Store you've been dreaming of using.
With some of the best theme creators already on-board we can guarantee you'll have access to amazing and exclusive content in an environment that's sure to meet everyone's needs. Focusing on high-quality, complete themes, the goal of Theme it isn't to have a million themes in the gallery… but the best ones available.
The platform includes a very user-friendly website and an iPhone/iTouch application to showcase and distribute the themes with instant access to the information you really want, such as screenshots, details, compatibility and much more. You'll also have the opportunity to learn a little more about the artists that create the themes you love and use. A section will be dedicated to these wonderful designers.
We're doing all we can to make this available as soon as possible, so stay tuned for more info on the release date.

Theme It is set to be released very soon. Themes will be distributed in both paid and free solutions.

ThemeIt is going to be the standard for how we approach themes, as customers and developers...and let me say the standard has been set VERY high! Not sure there is anything saurik could do to rival this. I'm sure he'll try and "buy-it-out", like he did to Rock, after he sees how successful it's going to be. ThemeIt FTW!!!!

For the record, I gave Rock $0 in exchange for Rock Your Phone. I "bought them out" in exchange for two advertising slots on Cydia's home page and an "at-cost" processing deal for Intelliborn's products (MyWi, My3G, etc.). I did not go to any great lengths to "shut them down". Also, again for the record, while themes are exciting for free users, they do not make much money via direct sales: almost all of the money made in the ecosystem off of themes, by two orders of magnitude, is made by the default Cydia repositories on ad revenue.

Countdown timer on their website says it's coming in 1 day, 13 hours, 45 minutes and some change. Nice!

Nice, good to be able to browse themes on the device. Just saying though, there won't be any competition between this and Cydia. Cydia doesn't stand a chance ^^ there is no proper UI for themes, not even able to show most popular packages in a category. Not to mention the fact that anyone who is even remotely sane have disabled the theme categories in cydia.

Cydia has been littered with crap for a long time now! ThemeIt is the answer to a very pleasant, user-friendly and esthetically pleasing experience for theme lovers. Cydia was made for pirate repos to thrive and steal money from our hard work.

Indeed it is, not that I've ever got my themes from Cydia, i get them from website such as macthemes. Oh, and don't say Cydia was made for pirate repos to thrive, it is true however that nothing has been done to stop them in any way, but there are two reasons for that. 1. Cydia is just a package manager, a front end to dpkg it's not like cydia is hosting the piracy. 2. If cydia starts to block repositories or certain packages it goes against the very purpose of why it was created...

If it will be an Appstore app then it wont be able to do much due to Apple's restriction, and if it will be a Jailbreak app then I don't know how it would work because currently, iPhone themes work with Winterboard which runs on Mobilesubstrate. Now Mobilesubstrate is developed by Saurik Jay Freeman, who also runs Cydia. So if this Theme it thingy is going to put up any competition, then they would have to go into making their own Mobilesubstrate alternative unless Saurik lets them make money off his work, which hes offering at no cost.

Judging by the video it's a store for winteboard themes... Seriously you think Saurik would mind? He doesnt mind all the websites that host themes you know...

The more people that use themes use winterboard..which means more people using cydia to install it. Jay doesn't like competition and that's the bottom line. Who do u think was responsible for the untimely demise of Rock Your Phone??!!

I was thinking rock's extensions were at the center of their issue... but there you go with this other. Who's to say what's real.

Competition is good. I hope this would enable the team at Cydia to do more for the iPad like first-off, updating the 'Hello! I'd like to tell you..... blah blah blah' message on their home page. No disrespect intended to anyone but just a hint. Cydia rocks. Much obliged to Jay Freeman.

The development of ThemeIt is was inspired saurik to strong-arm all the default repos and other members of the icommunity into not supporting ThemeIt or he would cut them all off! He's a great coder, but a terrible business man.
