Apple has purchased a 98-acre property across from its Pruneridge site from HP, according to a Mercury News report.
Apple's latest acquisition is the longtime Cupertino campus of rival tech giant Hewlett-Packard, the Mercury News learned Wednesday. HP announced over the summer that it planned to move out of that site, which it had occupied for decades, as it consolidates operations at its Palo Alto headquarters over the next two years.
The HP property is across the street -- Pruneridge Avenue, to be exact -- from a 50-acre site that Apple had previously acquired and announced as the location for a planned second campus, to augment its main headquarters at 1 Infinite Loop. City officials said the main headquarters is about 35 acres.
It's not clear how much Apple paid for the property; however, HP's asking price would likely have been around $300 million.
