iPhone Dev-Team Demos SHAtter Jailbreak for iOS 4.1 [Video]

The iPhone Dev-Team has published a video demonstrating the upcoming SHAtter jailbreak for iOS 4.1.

The exploit (and payload) was developed by @pod2g a few months after @p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team discovered the crash. That team is hard at work bringing you a brand new tool to make use of the exploit. It’s not the sort of thing that can be developed overnight so please be patient while waiting for any announcements from them.

In the meantime, we’ve put @pod2g’s exploit into a beta version of PwnageTool to test the waters. The SHAtter exploit was enough to convince the iPod touch 4G to restore to our custom IPSW. The successful result is shown below!

Although PwnageTool was a useful first test of a full iPod 4G jailbreak via SHAtter, it’s really overkill compared to the faster tools being developed. Its main use in PwnageTool will be for those with iPhone4’s, to allow updates while preserving the baseband and ultrasn0w carrier unlock. In any event, this is another exciting time for iPhone and iPod touch users…the cat and mouse game continues!

I got iphone 3GS 4.0.1 but mistakenly i upgraded it to 4.1 and now i m stuck and waiting for something that can unlock my phone. My phone is jailbroken but not unlocked, if someone can help me in how i can downgrade it to previous version, i will be very grateful to you. Thanks

I just bought one 3GS in eBay in 4.1 bb:5.14.02, so I'm in the same ship... let's hope the Dev Team can work on the unlock as soon as they finish the Shatter installation tools, GUI, etc. @sherif_hashim and @oranav got the exploit for the last bb, maybe they can do it again soon.

Why does everyone always get so angry and aggressive? It'll be out when its out. If you don't want a jailbreak or aren't interested, then don't post a comment and shout at others. Good work Chronic/iPhone Dev team. Yet more excellent work. You guys are truly amazing.

This is a jailbreak not an unlock. They never mentioned unlock. Why are people asking when this jailbreak/unlock will be out, there is NO unlock yet. This will only jailbreak your phone if you upgrade to 4.1 you will NOT unlock it. Wait for pwnage tool to be upgraded so it preserves the baseband.

The thing is i have SW Version 4.0.2. on Basband 01.59.00 ... so i can't jailbreak / unlock at the moment ...

If jailbreak comes out, will it be a unlock for 4.1 baseband. I have brand-new iPhone 4 ships with 4.1 with new baseband. Anyone pls tell me I should keep or get rid of it

i forgot to say, but the web links says it anyway, this is for a 3g 3gs iphone, and it does not update your baseband. my iphone says 3g sw version 4.1 (8B117) baseband 5.11.07

I have an officially unlocked iPhone 4 on iOS 4.0.2, not jailbroken or unlocked right now, but want to jailbreak on 4.1 when it comes out. My question is, since I don't need ultrasn0w, does that mean I don't have to worry about the baseband and can upgrade to iOS 4.1 from iTunes right now and then be able to jb on 4.1 later? Thanx

Yup that's exactly what unlocked means... It'll work on any character, upgrade away. Unless you have jailbroken apps already that you'd like to continue to use. If that's the case then wait.

Yes, you will be able to jailbreak later, it will likely involve a restore unless someone releases a username exploit.

The iPhone 4's baseband can already be preserved when upgrading to 4.1 with TinyUmbrella, whats the point. I can upgrade to 4.1 now, while preserving my 1.59 baseband with TinyUmbrella, then jailbreak with greenpois0n when its released. NO NEED FOR PWNAGETOOL.

* Get the latest TinyUmbrella (4.1.4) * Run TinyUmbrella. * Start TSS Server * Open iTunes * Restore 4.1 (NOT UPDATE) Yes this requires you to download 4.1 * Let iTunes error with 1004 error (baseband update failed - we want this :) ) * Kick Device Out of Recovery * You are now on 4.1 with 1.59.00 baseband!

Yes, keep the TSS server running on TinyUmbrella until you need to kick out of recovery, once kicked out AFTER the restore, you can close it.

@puls it's a simple concept.... A user updates to 4.1 via TinyUmbrella, saving their baseband at 1.59, so WHEN the 4.1 jailbreak comes out.... The user can jailbreak, then install ultrasn0w. Meaning they will be jailbroken and unlocked on 4.1 with 1.59 baseband......broken down enough for you??

@plus cydia won't be installed at this time this is just an upgrade of the firmware from 4.0.2 to 4.1 preserving baseband 1.59.00 This modem firmware ( 1.59.00 ) is compatible with ultrasnow which we use to unlock. I hope it is clear now.
