How to Check the Bootrom Version of Your iPhone (Windows)

These are instructions on how to determine the bootrom version of your iPhone using Windows.

Step One
Connect your iPhone to the computer and put it into DFU mode. If you don't know how to do this you can find instructions here.

Step Two
Press to launch Control Panel from your Start Menu.

Step Three
Press to select Hardware and Sound from your Control Panel window.

Step Four
Press to select Device Manager from the Hardware and Sound window.

Step Five
Double click to expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers category

Step Six
Right click the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver item and click the Properties button.

Step Seven
Click to select the Details tab.

Step Eight
Select Device Instance Path from the Properties dropdown.

Step Nine
Scroll to the end of the field to locate your bootrom version. It should look something like [iBoot-359.3]

***If you have an iPhone 3GS, iBoot-359.3 is considered the old bootrom. iBoot-359.3.2 is considered the new bootrom.

I have followed the instructions, got into dfu quite easily and followed through system/hardware/device manager/apple mobile usb driver and details. There was no option in widows (XP) for "device instance path" in the drop dowm menu. Can anybody suggest why not

Here's a stupid question. Assume I have got into dfu mode and have got my bootrom, how do I get out of dfu mode do I just disconnect the phone from the pc and restart it.

Take the cable out and open up ituens connect the device and if your using windows hold down shift and click on restore load the current firmware file you have and just wait...

hi to all i try many time by using this method but when i chose drive instant path , i did not see the iboot word so.. what can i do?

btw, steps 2-4 can be compressed by just right-clicking my computer and selecting manage. saves the clutter of opened window. (:

If you are on IE8, press the compatibility view mode button that is right next to the address bar

On windows, you can download System INformation Viewer (SIV) and look at USB descriptors. It's a cool tool and help make the job easier. Run it after phone in DFU

BTW guys 1 more important info is missing here, coz when doing this the Phone must be connected in DFU mode to get this information, otherwise it wont show the following information..... Please add that to the post also, then it will be complete

very true I agree with above guy. I just try and it didnt show up untill i did dfu but one more info is missing how to fix your phone and get jailbroken if you already have IOS4 on phone Iphone 3gs which has old bootroom cause i have no way of jailbreaking keep getting 1600 error try everysolution Can someone can help me

step says put it into dfu mode. i mean the 1st step, so if reading isnt your strong point, maybe the internet shouldnt be your passtime, and specially not messing around with your iphone.
