Hey guys, I have an Iphone 3g that I purchased and jailbroke eons ago. I'm looking to upgrade the firmware version of the same. I brought my Iphone in a different country so I'm not concerned about voiding my warranty at all.
Iphone 3G - 8GB
Version 3.0 (7A341)
Modem Firmware - 04.26.08
1) What's the latest version I can upgrade to and still jailbreak it ? (Again, when I bought the phone it wouldn't accept any sim card prior to the jailbreak)
2) Performance parameters - How will upgrading affect the speed of my phone.
Any guides/links about the same would be extremely helpful.
PS: Can I use the tutorials that are meant for the 3GS?

You can use PwnageTool or Sn0wBreeze to jailbreak and update to iOS 5.1.1 without updating your baseband. Then install UltraSn0w to unlock from Cydia.

Re: JB Performance issues
Jailbreaking won't affect the speed of the device, though if you load it full of crap, that will. Sometimes if you load two incompatible things, you may find that something stops working, so it's important to only load things one at a time so you'll know what to remove if anything goes wrong.
They key is that upgrading the firmware doesn't buy you much, while it'll limit what you can do with your phone, whereas upgrading the software (iOS version), will.
I'd visit the Firmware Umbrella website to save your settings (they'll explain about firmware upgrades), then upgrade to iOS v5 (if it's not already too late to do so). That version is fairly easy to jailbreak.
