I flashed my new boot rom 3GS to the iPad baseband, and it is unlocked with ultrasn0w (how it isn't bricked I'm not quite sure). I'm wondering if it is safe to upgrade to iOS 6 and if I'll be able to restore my backup after jailbreakng the new OS. Sorry if this is a repeat thread but I'm not sure how many new boot rom having 3GS owners were dumb/brave enough to flash the baseband anyway.
Thanks!

Hi there, I too have a 3gs, new bootrom and already had 6.15 baseband originally but downgraded due to advice given on another forum,.that gave me bb 5.16 -<--- not good apparently, was told I could NOT do anything at this point, sooo I thought "what the hell, I'm going live dangerously) flashed bb back to 6.15 and jb with redsn0w and it worked!
What makes the difference is when the iphone was put out, earlier ones can be successful, older one's not.
Good luck!
Sandy

Downgrade your baseband using redsn0w to one that doesn't affect your GPS. Then use redsn0w to update to iOS 6 while preserving your baseband. This will be a tethered jailbreak. Boot tethered then install the evasi0n package from Cydia to untether. Then install ultrasn0w to unlock.
