Apple to Donate to Myanmar Earthquake Relief Efforts

Apple CEO Tim Cook has posted on X to address a catastrophic earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand late last week. In his post, Cook expressed sympathy for those impacted and confirmed that Apple will make a donation to aid relief efforts in the region.

The earthquake, registering a magnitude of 7.7, hit Myanmar's Sagaing Region on March 28, 2025, at 12:50:54 MMT, with its epicenter near Mandalay. Data from the United States Geological Survey notes it as the strongest quake in Myanmar since 1912. Its effects reached into Thailand, with significant shaking felt in Bangkok, roughly 1,000 kilometers from the epicenter. There have been over 2,900 deaths reported in Myanmar and 18 in Thailand, alongside more than 3,400 injuries across both nations. Hundreds remain missing, including many at a collapsed construction site in Bangkok.

Apple has not disclosed the donation amount or specific recipients; however, the company has a history of contributing to disaster relief, often partnering with organizations like the Red Cross for such efforts. In this case, rescue operations are underway but face hurdles due to the ongoing civil war in Myanmar, restricted access to rural areas, and disrupted communication.
