Apple has released a new firmware update for the Powerbeats Pro 2, bringing the build number to 7B30 from the previous 7B24. This update arrives just over a month after the earbuds hit the market and could address some early issues encountered by users.
Powerbeats Pro 2 launched in February with standout features like heart rate monitoring, Active Noise Cancellation, and a redesigned fit, but some users ran into problems. Reviews highlighted inconsistent heart rate readings, connectivity problems with iOS fitness apps, and limitations when pairing with gym equipment, forcing a choice between audio playback and heart rate tracking. This firmware update could tackle those concerns, though Apple hasn't shared specific release notes detailing any changes.
Firmware updates are delivered automatically (over the air) while your earbuds are charging and in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Android device. (Your device must be connected to Wi-Fi to install any updates.)
To check the current firmware version on an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth, tap the info button next to Powerbeats Pro 2, and scroll to the About section. On a Mac, navigate to System Settings > Bluetooth and click the info button beside the earbuds' name. The update process requires no manual intervention beyond ensuring a stable connection.
Powerbeats Pro 2 are available in Jet Black, Quick Sand, Hyper Purple, and Electric Orange for $249. It's unclear if they will go on sale for Amazon's Big Spring Sale but you can download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS to be notified if they do.
