Apple to End iPhone SE and iPhone 14 Sales in the EU This Month [Report]
Posted 2 hours ago by iClarified
Apple will end sales of the iPhone SE 3 and the iPhone 14 in the EU this month in compliance with the European Union's USB-C mandate, reports iGeneration.
According to our information, Apple will remove the iPhone SE, iPhone 14, and iPhone 14 Plus from its online store and physical retail locations. This move complies with the European Union's directive mandating a universal charger — specifically a USB-C port — for all mobile phones and other categories of products.
The EU mandate goes into effect on December 28, 2024 and also applies to tablets, headphones, and more.
---
The 'common charging' requirements will apply to all handheld mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, headsets, portable speakers, handheld videogame consoles, e-readers, earbuds, keyboards, mice, and portable navigation systems as of 28 December 2024. These requirements will also apply to laptops as of 28 April 2026. Such transition periods will give industry sufficient time to adapt before the entry into application.
---
It appears that Apple has decided to abandon its Lightning model iPhones rather than update them with a USB-C port. Unfortunately, this does remove lower cost iPhones from Apple's available lineup; however, the company is widely expected to unveil a new iPhone SE 4 in spring 2025 that will have a USB-C port and a lower price tag than the iPhone 16.
