Apple to Begin Making AirPods in India Next Year [Report]

Apple will start making AirPods in India for the first time early next year, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

A unit of supplier Foxconn Technology Group will start the assembly of AirPods at a new factory near Hyderabad in Telangana state around the first quarter of next year, people familiar with the matter said, asking not to be named as the matter is private. The factory is already making AirPods on a trial basis, and manufacturing will ramp up quickly after production begins, they said.

Notably, AirPods will only be the second major Apple product to be assembled in India. The iPhone was the first. The move comes as Apple seeks to reduce its reliance on China for manufacturing, especially since trade tensions between the two countries are likely to rise. The U.S. is set to ban the popular TikTok app from China's ByteDance next month, citing national security concerns. Additionally, the incoming administration will likely take a harder stance on trade policies and technology dependencies with China.
