Apple captured 12.3% of the US PC market in Q2 2024, down slightly from 12.7% in the year ago quarter, according to a new report from Canalys. Overall, PC shipments to the United States were up 4% year-on-year to 18.9 million units.
Notebook demand was especially strong, with shipments posting an annual growth rate of more than 5%. Following a healthy first half of 2024, the market is now poised to see growth accelerate. Total PC shipments to the US are expected to rise 6% to just under 70 million units in 2024 before growing another 6% to 74 million units in 2025.
"With IT spending ramping up, large enterprise PC refresh is well underway, with shipments to the segment growing 12% in the latest quarter," said Canalys Analyst Greg Davis. "While growth for consumer and SMBs was not as high, both segments still finished the quarter with healthy increases of 3% and 6% respectively."
Canalys says the forecast for the US PC market remains strong throughout 2024 and 2025 with expectations of 6% growth in both years.
"Macroeconomic conditions in the US remained stable through the first half of 2024, incentivizing business spending to ramp up in the second quarter," continued Davis. "Looking forward, the third quarter interest rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve will support improved business spending over the critical upcoming quarters. The consumer segment will likely also see a boost in the latter half of 2024 due to the holiday season with significant discounting and promotions."
Apple will likely see a boost in Mac sales over the next few month as it transitions to its powerful new M4 chip. The company is expected to hold an event next month that will introduce the following new Mac models.
● J604: Low-end 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro
● J614 and J616: High-end 14-inch and 16-inch M4 MacBook Pros (M4 Pro and M4 Max options)
● J623: M4 iMac
● J773: Smaller Mac mini with M4 and M4 Pro chip options
