Apple may be planning to increase the price of its next generation iPhone 15, according to a new report from Haitong Intl Tech Research analyst Jeff Pu.
The iPhone 15 is purportedly on track to start mass production in August with no significant bottlenecks. Haitong expects total iPhone 15 builds in 2H23 to reach 84 million units, compared to 75 million for the iPhone 14 in 2H22. The improved year over year will help suppliers that landed orders for the new device; however, Pu notes that a higher price for the iPhone 15 could impact sell-thru.
We now expect the total iPhone 15 builds in 2H23 to be 84m, vs. 75m in 2H22 (iPhone 14) which was impacted by Foxconn's Zhengzhou factory, with Luxshare taking 30% EMS shares. Still, this will lead to an improving iPhone YoY heading into year-end, providing a catalyst for the supply chain (before product launch). That said, the next to watch will be the pricing, for which we expect the Pro Max model to be priced higher, likely impacting sell-thru.
Pu also reiterates expected specifications for the new iPhone 15. The base models are said to feature 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch LTPS OLED displays, A16 processors, 6GB of RAM, and USB-C connectors. The Pro models are said to feature 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch LTPO OLED 120Hz displays, A17 processors, 8GB of RAM, and USB-C connectors. The iPhone 15 Pro will have a 12MP Tele (6P OIS) lens while the iPhone 15 Pro Max camera will purportedly get a new 12MP Tele Periscope 1G3P lens.
