Google has announced Matter support for its Nest Thermostat, introducing the ability to use the device with Apple Home without needing third party hardware.
Great news! We're rolling out Matter compatibility for our newest Nest Thermostat released in 2020. This means you can now adjust the temp and change your thermostat's mode with multiple Matter-certified smart home platforms and apps. If your Nest Thermostat hasn't received this update just yet, don't worry --- Matter compatibility will be rolling out to Nest Thermostat over the next few weeks, starting April 18.
Note that to use the thermostat with your Apple Home, you'll need to be on iOS 16.4 or higher.
The Google Nest Thermostat is currently on sale for 31% off at Amazon. That brings its price down from $129.99 to just $89.98.
The Matter connectivity standard promises to make smart home products compatible with whatever platform you choose; however, manufacturers have been slow to roll out support for the standard. There are some devices available from Eve and recently TP-Link launched a Kasa KP125M Smart Plug with Matter support; however, others like Belkin have delayed implementing support for the standard.
