Apple to Launch Both High-End and Low-End Headsets in 2025 [Report]

Apple is planning to launch both high-end and low-end versions of its mixed reality headset in 2025, according to a new report from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

As revealed earlier this week, Pegatron has purportedly withdrawn from development of Apple's first generation headset, likely transferring the development team and production resources to Luxcaseict, a joint venture between Luxshare ICT and Pegatron, led by Luxshare ICT.

Pegatron is a shareholder of Luxcaseict, so Luxcaseict's profit will be beneficial to Pegatron, but essentially, Pegatron is gradually withdrawing from Apple's headset business.


Kuo expects Luxshare ICT to use Luxcaseict to win orders for future AR/MR headset products in the future. Apple is already believed to be working on its second generation models which include both a high-end version to be developed and produced by Luxcaseict, as well as, a low-end model developed in conjunction with Foxconn.

Apple's second-generation AR/MR headset has two high-end and low-end models. The high-end and low-end will be developed and produced by Luxcaseict and Foxconn, respectively. The current launch schedule for both models will likely be in 2025.

Kuo also notes that Pegatron's unwillingness to directly work on the headset could be a potential warning sign for Apple. For now, the first generation headset looks unlikely to arrive this spring with Kuo suggesting a possible fall release.

The prediction for the mass shipment schedule is unchanged, but the likelihood of Apple's 1st-gen AR/MR headset release at the spring event is decreasing. Meanwhile, the probability of the headset launch alongside iPhone 15 in 3Q23 is rising.
