10th Gen iPad Review Roundup [Video]

Early reviews of the new 10th generation iPad are out ahead of its release on Wednesday, October 26.

The Verge
In a vacuum, there’s very little to complain about with the 10th-gen iPad. It’s an excellent tablet that does all of the things you expect from a tablet very well. Even though its screen isn’t as good as other iPads, it’s still good enough, and its performance is unimpeachable. If this was the only iPad Apple sold, many people would buy it and be perfectly happy with it. But in context with the many other iPads that Apple sells, I’m not sure why you’d pick this one. If cost is a factor, you’re buying an iPad for a kid, or need a headphone jack, the still-available and much less expensive ninth-gen model is the one to go with. For a lot of people, the ninth-gen model is the better iPad for their needs. If you want the bigger screen and more modern design, the iPad Air is right there with its better display, even faster processor, and better accessory landscape, and you can frequently get it for less than $100 more than the new iPad.

I’m slightly bummed about the price hike, but I recognize that these updates are a major improvement to the iPad experience. My thoughts so far are that spending the extra $120 to get this iPad instead of last year’s model is worth it, and that most people will even prefer it to the $600 iPad Air.

Down the road, having an old Pencil and a sub-M1 chip could leave this iPad on the other side of the future. Then again, you'll be saving money. Apple hasn't made this iPad lineup easy this year. It feels like the iPad is a product still in transformation. Right now, its perfect form doesn't exist.



Six Colors
I’m glad Apple is making a decent keyboard with a trackpad available to users of the 10th-generation iPad. I just wish it had gone the extra mile and offered the actual Magic Keyboard. If you plan on using an iPad with a keyboard and trackpad and want to use it in your lap, it’s worth considering the iPad Air and Magic Keyboard, even though it will cost you about $200 more.

Pocket-lint
If you're after an everyday tablet to watch movies on, clear some emails, make some video calls and surf the web, the iPad (10th generation) is a fantastic option. It is a perfect blend of features and value for money, and with its upgraded design, it's likely to become the new go-to iPad for most people.


Tom's Guide
The iPad 2022 is a tablet that looks and feels new, and that’s a welcome change over the last few iterations. I appreciate the sleeker design and bigger display, though some may miss the headphone jack from the 9th gen iPad. I also like the Touch ID-enabled power button, repositioned front camera and USB-C charging, as well as the upgraded A14 Bionic chip and 5G connectivity. However, $449 is a lot of money to spend on this tablet. Yes, Apple is keeping the $329 iPad 9th gen around, but it still stings to see a $120 jump from one generation to the next. My bigger issue is with the Apple Pencil situation; it’s just way too awkward to charge this thing, and there’s nowhere to store the stylus when not in use. Do I think the iPad 2022 is worth the splurge over last year’s model? Mostly, as this is a more future-proof tablet. Overall, the iPad 10th gen is one of the best tablets, but I can’t unequivocally say that it’s the best tablet for most people because of the higher price and Apple Pencil blunder.
