Apple Finished Development of New Display 'Months Ago', Could Be Unveiled Tuesday

Apple completed development of a new display 'months ago', according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

The company purportedly planned to launch the display shortly after its new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros but that never happened. Now, Gurman believes the display could be unveiled at this week's 'Peek performance' special event.

I also wouldn’t rule out Apple previewing its next-generation external display. I’m told Apple actually completed work on it months ago, and the device was due to launch soon after last year’s MacBook Pro. Apple’s last in-house monitor came in 2019 alongside the Intel Mac Pro. A monitor would also explain the “peek” spelling.

Notably, another report from last week suggested that the display could feature a 7K resolution and be called the 'Apple Studio Display'.

Apple is expected to launch an iPhone SE 3, iPad Air 5, and new Macs at this event. The company has been testing multiple computers with eight CPU cores and ten GPU cores on macOS 12.3, macOS 12.4, and macOS 13. It's likely this is the next generation M2 chip.

It's rumored that Apple has new Mac minis with M2 and/or M1 Pro, iMac Pros with M1 Pro/Max, and a MacBook Pro with M2 in the pipeline. The release of these devices will likely be spread out over March and May/June timeframes. It's unclear which devices Apple will choose to unveil this week.

Finally, the iMac Pro and Mac Pro are probably not ready for launch but Apple could choose to preview one or more to get customers ready for a release later in the year.
