Samsung has suspended product shipments to Russia following its invasion of Ukraine, reports Bloomberg.
The South Korean tech giant is actively monitoring the complex situation, the company said in an emailed statement to Bloomberg. Exports to Russia of all Samsung products ranging from chips to smartphones and consumer electronics have been suspended, according to a person familiar with the matter.
“Our thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted and our priority is to ensure the safety of all our employees and their families,” Samsung said in the statement.
Samsung is also donating $6 million, including $1 million in consumer electronics, to help humanitarian efforts in the region.
The move follows an open letter to Jong Hee Han, Vice Chairman & CEO of Samsung Electronics, from Mykhailo Fedorov, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine.

Dear Jong Hee Han,
We are the Government of Ukraine asking you for help against the war that commenced against Ukraine and reached an active phase a few days ago, in the center of Europe. For the eighth day we have been fighting against the Russian aggressors for peace and sovereignty of our country. We want to stop it, and so, like the rest of the civilized world.
While governors all over the world are repelling the aggressor through the imposition of sanctions, business-leaders, companies, and organizations are dramatically helping us with a word and action, clearly recognizing which values we are fighting for. There is no single solution that will stop the aggressor, but the joint effort together will help to slow it down.
We want you to be part of history and help us in such an extraordinary situation. I do believe that you care about world's peace and will never support bloody authoritarian aggression. That's why I appeal to you with a request to temporarily stop supply Samsung services and products to the Russian Federation, including blocking access to the Samsung Pay, Samsung-Galaxy Store and Samsung Shop.
We believe that such actions will motivate the youth and active population of Russia to proactively stop the disgraceful military aggression. We need your support - in 2022, modern technology is perhaps the best answer to the tanks, multiple rocket launchers and missiles targeting residential neighborhoods, kindergartens, and hospitals. Stay with Ukraine and save millions of innocent lives!
Best regards,
Mykhailo Fedorov
