Expanding online news service TheBusinessDesk has become the first regional business publisher to offer a free iPhone app, making it even easier for users to access its three business news sites while on the move. The application is available to download free and will complement the online news service's websites in Yorkshire, the North West and the West Midlands.
"When we launched three years ago, we were the first regional provider of online business news. Having built up more than 35,000 registered users across our sites, it is important that we continue to innovate and make it as easy as possible for our users to access up to the minute regional news whether in the office or out and about," said TheBusinessDesk managing director David Parkin.
"We have been receiving more and more requests for an app since the iPhone was released to more networks last year and we are all about giving users the best information in whatever format they want. We will be following this launch with an app for the Blackberry and other platforms too," added Parkin.
Based in Leeds, TheBusinessDesk was launched in 2007 by former Yorkshire Post business editor David Parkin; it now employs a total of 17 journalists and support staff and is set to turnover £1m this year. The service sends more than 500,000 emails bulletins to business readers every month and in January launched a third site in the West Midlands, which has already attracted more than 2,500 registered users in its first month.
The BusinessDesk app is available to download free from the iTunes store and is completely free to use. The development of the app has been between Leeds based app specialists The Engine Room and Liverpool web firm Rippleffect who manage the growing portfolio of TheBusinessDesk sites.
Pricing and Availability:
TheBusinessDesk 1.0 completely free and available exclusively through the App Store in the News category. Registered users of the website will have full access to every story published on the site's three regional homepages, as well as thousands of pages of archive stories. Users can also forward stories to contacts via email from their iPhones.
