New Macs With M1 Chip Do Not Support eGPUs

Apple's new Macs with the new M1 chip do not support eGPUs, reports TechCrunch.

Apple’s first Macs built around its self-developed SoC do not support eGPUs, TechCrunch has learned. It’s unclear exactly where the incompatibility begins; does the M1 chip itself not play friendly with eGPUs, or is it something else about the three new Macs announced today?

The lack of eGPU support will be disappointing to users who rely on the additional performance of an external graphics card. While the M1 is said to provide up to 6x faster GPU performance than previous generation Macs, it's unlikely to rival a dedicated card.

We'll let you know when benchmarks for the new Macs are available. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for updates.
