Photos allegedly showing a new braided Apple Lightning to USB-C cable for the iPhone 12 have been leaked. The images were posted to Twitter by Mr·white.
Previous reports have said the new cable will feature eight silver contacts that are made of rhodium-plated ruthenium which is more durable than gold contacts, preventing corrosion. Unlike the official black cable, the leaked design doesn't appear to offer any strain relief at the connector ends.
It's rumored that Apple will not include a power adapter or EarPods in the box with a new iPhone 12; however, it's likely a Lightning cable will still be provided.
I couldn’t agree more. Unless their diabolical plan is to phase out everything but the main item in the box and make things like power bricks, cables, cases etc.
I’m sure Apple would *love* it if when you bought an iPad, that was all that came in the box. Then the sales associate would ask: “Do you need any accessories like a power cord, charger brick, case etc.?”
Once you stop screaming about your $2,000 purchase not having a power brick, the sales rep then will read their script about how this is “saving the environment” and you’re helping save the planet. They then take you to the accessories wall where you pick out your cable (braided, non-braided, Apple, other brands), charging brick (“how fast you want to be able to charge your device?” etc.) and case etc.
But god I hope I’m wrong.
Of course that would be ridiculous of them to do. It’s the equivalent of shipping a tv without its remote (unless you’re like me and would rather use the bottom on the tv to navigate anything).
Well, they make billions off of their accessories. In the past they’ve decided to nudge customers into buying accessories.
When they removed the headphone jack they conveniently had a TON of Bluetooth headphones for sale under the Apple and Beats brand, and sales went up.
Apple under Tim Cook puts profits over creativity, uniqueness and that “from the future” vibe with every product or service they offer. People have noticed how Apple is doing things that Steve Jobs would never have allowed. Such as selling a laptop with no way to plug your iPhone into it, unless you bought a dongle. An important detail some people didn’t know was waiting for them until they went to plug in their phones. That led to some angry customers.
When Phil Schiller stood on stage and gave his little speech about Apple having the “courage” to remove the headphone jack from the iPhone, people were either laughing or screaming at Apple because they saw it as such a cash grab.
I could see Apple being even more “courageous” to the point literally nothing comes in the box but your iPhone, iPad or whatever. Imagine the profits. If they sell 70 million iPhones in one quarter and 25% of those people spend $50 on “accessories”, that is $875million. I think Tim could see this being a great way to guarantee a % of profit, and that money in the bank is what he’s after.
They’ll say this extreme idea is to help the environment but they’ll see this as a double win. Make the customers feel as though they have more choices of accessories at time of purchase, and Apple makes a lot of money fast. I feel like this is a plan already in action. Start with the headphone jack, then the included earbuds, slow wattage power cube and just keep on going. We’ll have to wait and see how this gets rolled out.
What do you mean you can’t plug your iPhone into your MacBook directly I have a 11 pro max and the latest MacBook Pro and I can plug in my iPhone directly without an adapter I did it yesterday!
