Apple's first MacBook with custom silicon will be an updated 13-inch MacBook Pro, reiterates TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a research note seen by MacRumors. The notebook will allegedly retain a similar form factor to the current generation device and be released in the fourth quarter of this year.
Kuo says that a 13-inch MacBook Air will arrive next, either in 4Q20 or in 1Q21. Unfortunately, the rumored mini-LED 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro redesign isn't expected until 2Q21 or 3Q21.
We predict that Apple will launch new MacBook models including the new 13.3-inch MacBook Pro equipped with the Apple Silicon in 4Q20, the new MacBook Air equipped with the Apple Silicon in 4Q20 or 1Q21, and new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models equipped with the Apple Silicon and all-new form factor design in late 2Q21 or 3Q21.
If correct, this could result in a situation where Apple's lower end MacBooks are more powerful than its high-end devices.
Kuo didn't address the whether or not the rumored redesigned iMac would feature Apple Silicon.
